Pinterest! The Latest Social App with Meteoric Rise in Popularity

Pinterest is gaining popularity by giving users a way to share and collaborate on things that interest them. Development started in 2009 and was formally launched in 2010 it is now one of the top 10 social sites on the internet with over 11 million users.

Pinterest is a bulletin board style content sharing service that allows users to “pin” things on the Internet that interest them and share these with other Pinterest users. Users create themed “boards” allowing users to group like things together. Boards are populated using the “Pin It” application available as a free download. Pinned items can be a picture, video or a product for example. Users can also link Pinterest to their Facebook or Twitter accounts and can login to Pinterest through Facebook.

One of the most popular ways to populate Pinterest is by “re-pinning” items that others have posted, kind of like “re-tweeting”. You can also follow the activity of other Pinterest uses and receive alerts on their activity on the site.

Pinterest is still technically in beta and open to invited users only. But, you can request an invite at www.pinterest.com and one should be sent to you very quickly.
